Columbia State Welcomes New Assistant Coach Abigail Sgro
Columbia State is excited to announce the addition of Abigail Sgro as its new Assistant Coach for both the softball and soccer programs. Sgro, who began her new role on August 1, brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Chargers' coaching staff.
Sgro's coaching journey is marked by a series of impressive roles. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Softball Coach at Frostburg State University in Maryland from 2023 to 2024. Prior to that, she held positions as an Assistant Coach at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and as the Interim Head Coach at Delaware State University. Sgro's experience with Delaware State includes time as an Assistant Softball Coach from 2021 to 2022, followed by her role as Interim Head Coach for the 2022-2023 season.
Her playing career laid a solid foundation for her coaching career. Sgro competed in collegiate softball at Ashland University from 2015 to 2019, where she honed her skills and developed a deep understanding of the game.
Katie Willingham, Columbia State's Athletic Director, expressed her enthusiasm about Sgro's arrival: "We are thrilled to have Abigail join our staff. Her knowledge and experience alone will help our student-athletes to thrive at our level. She's enthusiastic and eager to coach, and we are excited to have her energy a part of our staff."
Sgro herself is equally excited about her new role. She shared, "Starting this new position at Columbia State has been such a fulfilling experience already. I'm thrilled to be working with fantastic people to guide and support me along the way and be a part of a growing college. I'm eager to help Coach Sam turn the softball program around and support Coach Kean and the soccer team as they embark on a season that already has great success. This year so far has been amazing, and Columbia State has felt like home away from home! Go Chargers!"
Columbia State looks forward to the positive impact Abigail Sgro will bring to both the softball and soccer programs. Her experience, passion, and commitment promise to be valuable assets as the Chargers continue to build and excel in their athletic endeavors.
