Lady Chargers Rally for Double-Overtime Win to Reach TCCAA Championship
The Lady Chargers delivered a thrilling comeback on Monday night, defeating the Cleveland State Lady Cougars 77–73 in double overtime in the TCCAA Region 7 Tournament semifinals to advance to the championship game.
After a slow start offensively, Columbia State battled back in dramatic fashion to secure the hard-fought victory.
The Lady Chargers struggled to find their rhythm early, scoring just 7 points in the first quarter and 6 points in the second quarter as Cleveland State built an early lead. However, Columbia State came out of halftime with renewed energy and turned the momentum in the third quarter, erupting for 27 points to close the gap and get back into the game.
Sophomore Niana Hill led the charge with a dominant performance, finishing with 33 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 steals to lead all scorers. Hill's presence on both ends of the floor helped spark the Lady Chargers' comeback effort.
Sophomore Lily Melton added 20 points and 6 rebounds, while freshman Kelsey Keiler recorded a strong all-around performance with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals.
The Lady Chargers continued to fight late in regulation and into overtime. Columbia State captured its first lead of the game in the first overtime period and held off Cleveland State through the second overtime to seal the victory.
With the win, the Lady Chargers advance to the TCCAA Region 7 Championship Game, where they will face Walters State on Tuesday, March 10 at 4:00 PM.
