Lady Chargers Advance to Semifinals with Win Over Chattanooga State
The #3 Columbia State Lady Chargers opened play in the TCCAA Region 7 Tournament with a strong 72–53 victory over Chattanooga State on Sunday, March 8 at Volunteer State Community College.
Chattanooga State entered the matchup after defeating Roane State in the tournament play-in game, but the Lady Chargers controlled the contest and secured the win to move on in the bracket.
Columbia State was led by a pair of standout performances from freshman Kelsey Keiler and sophomore Lily Melton, who each scored 21 points. Keiler added 6 rebounds, while Melton contributed 5 rebounds in the victory.
Malaya Woullard also reached double figures with 12 points, while Niana Hill made a strong impact inside with 8 points and 11 rebounds.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 15–12 overall and 13–7 in TCCAA play and advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
Columbia State will face Cleveland State Community College on Monday, March 9 at 6 p.m. at Volunteer State.
