Lady Chargers Drop Road Doubleheader at Dyersburg State
The Lady Chargers softball team hit the road on Thursday, April 2 for a TCCAA doubleheader against Dyersburg State, falling in both contests.
In game one, the Lady Chargers were held to just three hits in an 8-0 loss. Haley Gamblin, Aspen Tipton-Williams, and Mycah Price each recorded a hit for Columbia State. Emily Copley took the loss in the circle, pitching five innings and allowing six hits and eight runs, none of which were earned.
The Lady Chargers looked to bounce back in game two but came up short in an 11-2 final. Marion Gamble started in the circle, going three innings and allowing nine hits and ten runs, seven earned. Haley Gamblin provided relief, tossing one inning and allowing one hit and one run.
Offensively, Columbia State showed improvement with seven hits in the second game. Bella Birdsong and Aspen Tipton-Williams led the way at the plate. Birdsong went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base, while Tipton-Williams finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Haley Gamblin added an RBI, going 1-for-3, while Hazelyn Minton went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Christina Juarez also contributed, finishing 1-for-2.
The Lady Chargers will return home to host Jackson State at Eddie Campbell Field on Wednesday, April 8, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
