Lady Chargers Drop Tough Doubleheader to Motlow State
The Columbia State Lady Chargers battled in a tightly contested TCCAA doubleheader against Motlow State on Tuesday, March 24 at Eddie Campbell Field, but came up just short in both games.
Game one proved to be a pitcher's duel that stretched into extra innings, with the Lady Chargers falling 5-4 in eight innings. Emily Copley delivered a strong performance in the circle, going the distance while allowing nine hits and five runs (three earned) with one strikeout.
Offensively, Columbia State put together a solid showing with 10 hits. Bella Birdsong led the way, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Hazelyn Minton added a hit and scored twice. TCCAA Player of the Week Haley Gamblin continued her impressive play, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Aspen Tipton-Williams contributed a double and a run, while Sara Craft added two hits and an RBI. Marion Gamble also chipped in with a hit and an RBI to help power the Lady Chargers' offense.
In game two, the Lady Chargers jumped out to an early lead through the first three innings, but the Motlow State Bucks rallied late to take a 6-4 victory.
Columbia State was limited to four hits in the second game. Summer Alsup paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Haley Gamblin added a hit and a run scored, while Mycah Price recorded a hit and drove in a run.
Marion Gamble got the start in the circle, pitching three innings and allowing one run on four hits. Haley Gamblin came on in relief, throwing four innings and taking the loss after allowing six hits and five runs (three earned).
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back as they hit the road to face Chattanooga State on Saturday, March 28 for another TCCAA doubleheader.
