Lady Chargers Face Tough TCCAA Weekend at Home
The Columbia State Lady Chargers softball team hosted a pair of TCCAA opponents over the weekend at Eddie Campbell Field, facing off against Pellissippi State Community College on Friday, March 13, and Walters State Community College on Saturday, March 14.
On Friday, the Lady Chargers dropped both games of a doubleheader against Pellissippi State. In game one, Columbia State fell 12-3 despite collecting eight hits. Bella Birdsong led off with a hit and a run, while Haley Gamblin went 2-for-3 at the plate. Aspen Tipton-Williams added a hit, run, and RBI, and Jaides Parrish turned in a perfect 3-for-3 performance.
In the circle, Marion Gamble took the loss, pitching five innings with five strikeouts. Gamblin came on in relief, adding an inning of work.
Game two saw the Lady Chargers fall 17-5. Birdsong and Gamblin each recorded two hits, with Gamblin delivering a standout performance, blasting two home runs and driving in five runs. Aspen Tipton-Williams, Summer Alsup, Christina Juarez, Mycah Price, and Parrish each added a hit in the effort.
Emily Copley took the loss in game two, with Gamble providing four innings of relief.
On Saturday, Columbia State hosted Walters State for another doubleheader. In game one, the Lady Chargers fell 12-2, managing just two hits. Birdsong and Hazelyn Minton accounted for the offense, with Minton connecting on a home run.
In the second game, the Lady Chargers recorded three hits in the contest. Tipton-Williams led the way with two hits, while Madison Arel added another.
Columbia State will look to bounce back as they travel to Southwest Tennessee Community College on Wednesday, March 18 for a TCCAA doubleheader.
