Lady Chargers Split Doubleheader Against Calhoun
The Lady Chargers Softball team hit the road on Saturday, traveling to Athens, Alabama, to take on Calhoun Community College in a competitive doubleheader. The Lady Chargers managed to split the two-game series, securing a thrilling 10-9 victory in game one before falling 12-3 in game two.
In the opener, the Lady Chargers showcased their offensive power, racking up 18 hits compared to Calhoun's 12. Jayla Davenport led the charge, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs, and two walks. Bella Birdsong was a force at the plate as well, finishing 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Madison Arel matched Birdsong's production, also going 4-for-5 while contributing two runs and three RBIs. Reagan Burleson and Jaelyn Luke each added two hits to the effort. In the circle, Samantha Staggs went the distance, pitching all seven innings. She allowed 14 hits and nine earned runs while walking four and striking out two to earn the win.
In game two, the Lady Chargers' bats cooled off as they managed only five hits. Jayla Davenport continued her strong performance, going 2-for-3 with her second home run of the day and two RBIs. Jaides Parrish, Mycah Price, and Madison Arel each recorded a hit. Pitcher Jaylee Warren took the loss after throwing four innings, surrendering 13 hits, eight earned runs, and three walks.
The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back as they return home to face Gadsden State on Monday, February 17th. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Eddie Campbell Field.
