Chargers Advance to TCCAA Semifinals with Win Over Dyersburg State
The #2 Columbia State Chargers opened play in the TCCAA Region 7 Tournament with a strong performance on Saturday, March 7, defeating the Eagles of Dyersburg State 74–59 at Volunteer State Community College.
Dyersburg State entered the matchup after defeating Pellissippi State in the tournament play-in game on Friday, March 6, but the Chargers controlled the game and secured the win to move on in the bracket.
Columbia State was led by a balanced offensive effort. Freshman Tyren Fisher and sophomore Jamison Glass paced the Chargers with matching performances of 14 points and 7 rebounds each. Sophomore Taveon Comage also contributed 14 points and 2 rebounds in the victory.
The conference's Defensive Player of the Year, freshman Nate Malosa, made his presence felt on both ends of the floor, finishing with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks. De'Costa Ricks and Arnez Anderson each added 6 points to help secure the win.
With the victory, the Chargers improve to 26–5 overall and 18–2 in TCCAA play and advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
Columbia State will face the Saluqis of Southwest Tennessee Community College on Monday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at Volunteer State.
