Chargers Earn Road Win at Vol State in TCCAA Makeup Game
The Columbia State Chargers continued their strong conference run with an impressive road victory on Monday, Feb. 16, defeating the Volunteer State Pioneers 91–63 in a TCCAA inclement weather make-up game.
Columbia State used balanced scoring and relentless defensive pressure to control the game from start to finish. Freshman Nate Malosa recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Kenny Ellis matched him with 14 points to go along with five assists. Sophomore Arnez Anderson added 13 points and four assists, and freshman JD Claybrook turned in another double-double performance with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Taveon Comage rounded out the scoring effort with 11 points and five rebounds.
The Chargers' depth and efficiency on both ends of the floor proved too much for Vol State, as Columbia State steadily built its lead and pulled away in the second half.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 23–4 overall and 16–1 in TCCAA play, maintaining their position near the top of the conference standings.
In the recent NJCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball rankings, the Chargers received votes this week for the first time this season!
Next up, the Chargers will travel to Morristown, Tennessee, on Saturday, Feb. 21, for a key conference matchup against the Walters State Senators, currently ranked No. 14 nationally.
