Chargers Sweep Pellissippi State in Return to Dave Hall Field
The Columbia State Chargers returned home to Dave Hall Field in impressive fashion, sweeping a three-game TCCAA series against Pellissippi State on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. After recent repairs to the outfield wall, the Chargers made the most of their home field advantage, earning wins of 12-5, 9-2, and 12-6.
In game one on Friday, the Chargers secured a 12-5 victory behind a strong offensive performance and solid pitching. Noah Taylor earned the win, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing seven hits and four earned runs with five strikeouts. Logan Johnson provided relief, going 2.1 innings with two hits allowed, one earned run, and four strikeouts.
Offensively, the Chargers totaled 11 hits, led by Holden Warmath who went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Ashton Kemp had a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs, and two runs. Julian Richards reached base three times, going 1-for-1 with two walks, two RBIs, and a run scored. Jordan Akins, Isaac Schafer, Cary Burke, and Jax Nichols each contributed hits, while Sam Smith added a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI and two runs.
The Chargers continued their momentum in game two, defeating the Panthers 9-2 behind another strong showing at the plate with 11 total hits. Warmath led again, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and three RBIs. Isaac Schafer added a double and a home run, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Jordan Akins went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and an RBI, while John Carter and Sam Smith each homered in the contest.
JC Myers earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Steele Moseley was dominant in relief, throwing two innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three.
In Saturday's nine-inning finale, the Chargers completed the sweep with a 12-6 victory. Harrison Cassle got the start, pitching four innings with four hits, three earned runs, and two strikeouts. Nick Bolton followed with three innings of relief, allowing two earned runs and striking out three, while Anthony Serrano closed the game with two innings, allowing no hits and striking out four.
The Chargers offense remained consistent in game three, with Ashton Kemp leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance including two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Holden Warmath added another home run, going 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Jax Nichols contributed a home run and three RBIs, while Isaac Schafer and Sam Smith each recorded multi-hit games. Contributions also came from Julian Richards, Jordan Akins, John Carter, and Owen Hutcheson.
With the sweep, the Chargers improve to 28-17 overall and 23-7 in TCCAA play, currently sitting second in the conference standings.
The Chargers will return to Dave Hall Field on Tuesday, April 21 for a non-conference matchup against Cleveland State.
