Chargers Take TCCAA Series at Roane State with Dominant Weekend
The Chargers baseball team put together an impressive weekend on the road, taking all three games in a TCCAA series against Roane State on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28.
In game one on Friday, the Chargers set the tone with an 8-1 victory behind a dominant performance on the mound from Noah Taylor. Taylor tossed a complete game, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out eight over seven innings to earn the win.
Offensively, the Chargers totaled 10 hits in the opener. Julian Richards led the way going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, while Holden Warmath went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, run, and RBI. Cary Burke had a standout performance, finishing 3-for-4 with three doubles, a run scored, and three RBIs. Jax Nichols added power at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
The Chargers carried that momentum into game two, earning a 10-4 win to complete the Friday sweep. Once again, the offense produced 10 hits in a balanced effort. Ashton Kemp got things started with a home run, while Holden Warmath continued his strong day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI. John Carter and Russ Lambert also added home runs, each driving in two runs, and Isaac Schafer contributed a triple with three RBIs.
On the mound, Tate Riggs delivered a complete game performance, going seven innings while allowing four hits and four runs (just one earned) and striking out 10.
Saturday's finale provided even more excitement, as the Chargers rallied in dramatic fashion. Trailing late, the Chargers exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to complete a comeback victory and secure the series sweep.
The offense once again produced 10 hits in the finale. Julian Richards went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, and two RBIs, while Ashton Kemp added another home run with two RBIs. Isaac Schafer contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Jax Nichols had a big day, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
The Chargers used a strong bullpen effort to seal the win. JC Myers earned the victory in relief, pitching 4.2 innings with four strikeouts and just one earned run allowed. Logan Johnson, Anthony Serrano, and Cary Burke combined to shut things down late, holding the Raiders scoreless over the final innings.
With the sweep, the Chargers improve to 19-14 overall and 16-5 in TCCAA play.
The Chargers return home on Tuesday, March 31, as they host Snead State at 2 p.m. at Battle Creek High School.
