Chargers Win Wild Series Battle Over Chattanooga State
The Columbia State Chargers baseball team picked up a key TCCAA series win over Chattanooga State this past weekend, taking two of three games in a high-scoring, action-packed matchup on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21.
The Chargers opened the series in dominant fashion on Friday with a 14-4 victory. On the mound, Noah Taylor earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing six hits and four runs, striking out six. JC Myers was outstanding in relief, shutting the door with two hitless innings.
Offensively, the Chargers exploded for 17 hits in the win. Holden Warmath led the charge with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, blasting two home runs while driving in four and scoring three times. Jordan Akins added three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, while Isaac Schafer went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI. John Carter also homered, finishing with two runs and two RBIs. Jax Nichols contributed two hits, including a double, while Sam Smith drove in three runs with a pair of hits. Cary Burke and Ashton Kemp each added to the offensive surge as the Chargers rolled to the convincing win.
Saturday's doubleheader proved to be a rollercoaster. In game one, the Chargers fell just short in a 13-12 loss. Tate Riggs got the start, going four innings with four strikeouts. The bullpen saw appearances from Logan Johnson, Steele Moseley, Anthony Serrano, and Sam Smith in a tightly contested battle.
The offense stayed hot despite the loss, tallying 11 hits. Julian Richards powered the lineup with two home runs and four RBIs, while John Carter also launched two home runs and drove in three. Ashton Kemp collected two doubles and scored twice, and Holden Warmath added two hits and three RBIs. Additional home runs from Cary Burke and Jax Nichols kept the Chargers within striking distance, but they ultimately came up just short.
The Chargers bounced back in dramatic fashion in game two, outlasting Chattanooga State in a wild 19-18 victory to secure the series win. Columbia State pounded out 16 hits in the slugfest.

Holden Warmath continued his strong weekend with two hits, including a home run and double. Cary Burke added a home run and four RBIs, while John Carter went deep again, finishing with three RBIs. Isaac Schafer collected three hits, and Sam Smith and Jax Nichols each contributed offensively. Ashton Kemp made a big impact as well, scoring four runs and adding an RBI.
With the series win, the Chargers improve to 16-12 overall and 13-5 in TCCAA play, currently sitting in fourth place in the conference standings. Columbia State will look to build on the momentum as they continue conference play in the coming weeks.
