Chargers Take Series on the Road at Southwest Tennessee
The Columbia State Chargers baseball team traveled west to face Southwest Tennessee Community College in a TCCAA weekend series on March 13–14, coming away with two wins in three games to secure the series victory.
The series opened on Friday with a tough 19-9 loss in seven innings. The Chargers recorded nine hits in the contest, led by Julian Richards, who went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Holden Warmath added a home run, finishing 1-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, while Jordan Akins went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI. Sam Smith contributed two hits and scored twice.
On the mound, Noah Taylor took the loss, while several Chargers saw relief appearances, including Steele Moseley, Nick Bolton, and Brayden Whitlow.
The Chargers responded in dominant fashion in game two on Saturday, shutting out the Saluqis 8-0 behind a strong all-around performance. Columbia State totaled 12 hits, with Richards leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 outing. Ashton Kemp added two hits and two RBIs, while Warmath stayed hot with another home run and two RBIs. Isaac Schafer also homered, contributing two RBIs in the win.
Tate Riggs delivered a standout performance on the mound, throwing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out eight. Anthony Serrano closed out the game in relief.
In the rubber match, the Chargers continued their offensive surge, defeating Southwest Tennessee 12-7. Columbia State pounded out 14 hits, highlighted by a huge day from Warmath, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, and six RBIs. Richards and Kemp each added two hits and two runs, while Schafer contributed three hits, including two doubles.
John Carter delivered a perfect day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, and three runs scored. Jax Nichols added two RBIs in the win.
On the mound, Braden Gover earned the win with 4.1 strong innings, allowing just two hits while striking out eight. Logan Johnson and Parker Day provided relief to secure the victory.
With the series win, the Chargers improve to 13-11 overall and 11-4 in TCCAA play.
Columbia State will travel to Northwest Shoals Community College on Tuesday, March 17 before returning home to host College of DuPage on Wednesday, March 18 at Columbia Central High School.
