Chargers Take Three-Game TCCAA Series at Jackson State
The Columbia State Chargers baseball team traveled to Jackson State for a three-game TCCAA series March 5–6 and came away with a series sweep, winning 14-12, 18-15, and 13-3.
Game 1 – Chargers 14, Jackson State 12
The Chargers opened the series with a strong offensive performance, recording 18 hits in the 14-12 win.
Jordan Akins led the way at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, four runs scored and an RBI. Sam Smith also had a big game, finishing 2-for-4 with two home runs, six RBIs and two runs scored. Isaac Schafer added three hits including a double and home run, scoring three times and driving in one run.
Other offensive contributors included Ashton Kemp with two hits and a double, Russ Lambert with a double and RBI, Cary Burke with two runs scored and an RBI, and John Carter with two hits and a run.
On the mound, Noah Taylor got the start and pitched five innings allowing two hits and one run while striking out four. Anthony Serrano added an inning of relief with two strikeouts.
Game 2 – Chargers 18, Jackson State 15
Columbia State's offense continued to stay hot in the second game of the series as the Chargers earned an 18-15 win in a seven-inning contest.
Julian Richards delivered a standout performance, going 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs while scoring four runs. Holden Warmath added a home run with three RBIs, while Isaac Schafer recorded a triple, two runs and three RBIs.
Owen Hutcheson collected two hits including a triple with two runs and two RBIs, while Sam Smith and Russ Lambert each had two hits and two RBIs.
Tate Riggs started on the mound for the Chargers, pitching 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. JC Myers followed with 2.1 innings and three strikeouts, and Anthony Serrano closed the game with three strikeouts in one inning.
Game 3 – Chargers 13, Jackson State 3 (5 innings)
The Chargers completed the series sweep with a 13-3 mercy-rule victory in five innings.
Jordan Akins highlighted the offense with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs, while Holden Warmath went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Jax Nichols added a two-hit performance with a home run, two runs and two RBIs, and Cary Burke contributed a home run with an RBI and run scored.
Braden Gover earned the start and pitched 4.1 innings allowing three runs while striking out three. Parker Day finished the game with one strikeout in relief.

With the series sweep, the Chargers improve to 10-10 overall and 9-3 in TCCAA play.
Columbia State will return home to host Kishwaukee College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 11, beginning at 1 p.m. at Dave Hall Field.
