Chargers Drop Tournament Opener
The Columbia State Chargers Baseball team finally took the field Monday for their opening game of the TCCAA Region 7 Baseball Tournament, facing off against the Southwest Tennessee Saluqis. In a hard-fought matchup, the Chargers came up short, falling 2-0 in a tightly contested game.
Sophomore pitcher Adam Jamison got the start for Columbia State and delivered a solid outing despite being tagged with the loss. Jamison went five innings, allowing just three hits, two earned runs, and recording four strikeouts.
Offensively, the Chargers managed five hits, but were unable to push any runs across the plate. Michael McClellan led the way at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3, while Russ Lambert and Hutson Miles each contributed a hit.
Despite the setback, there was cause for celebration as four Chargers earned TCCAA All-Region honors for their outstanding performances this season:
-
Dylan Alonso, starting pitcher – 1st Team All-Region
-
Cade Hitson, outfielder – 1st Team All-Region
-
Clint Seymore, designated hitter – 2nd Team All-Region
-
Jay Watson, relief pitcher – 2nd Team All-Region
With the loss, Columbia State moves into the elimination bracket and will face Jackson State on Tuesday, May 6 at 9:00 a.m. as they fight to keep their postseason hopes alive.
