Columbia State Head Baseball Coach Desi Ammons Accepts New Position
COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Columbia State Community College Head Baseball Coach Desi Ammons has accepted a baseball coaching position at another institution after leading the Charger baseball program for the past three seasons.
A Hohenwald native and Columbia State alumnus, Ammons spent six years as an assistant coach under former Head Coach Mike Corn before being named interim co-associate head coach during the 2022-23 season. He was later promoted to head coach and continued the tradition of success that has defined Columbia State Baseball.
During his three seasons as head coach, Ammons compiled an impressive 95-61 overall record and was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm. Under his leadership, the Chargers remained one of the conference's premier programs while continuing to develop student-athletes both on and off the field.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Ammons played for the Chargers from 2012-14 and served as one of the captains of Columbia State's 2014 NJCAA Junior College World Series team. He continued his collegiate career at Belmont University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science.
"Coach Desi has put a lot of time and heart into the Chargers' baseball program," said Columbia State Athletic Director Katie Willingham. "He has continued the tradition of success at Columbia State with outstanding teams and student-athletes. Winning TCCAA Coach of the Year in his first season and compiling a 95-61 record speaks to the impact he has had on our program. While we will certainly miss Coach Desi, I am excited for him as he takes this next step in his professional career and wish him nothing but the very best."
Reflecting on his time at Columbia State, Ammons expressed his appreciation for the program that helped shape his career.
"Columbia State has been home for more than a decade of my life, and it's difficult to put into words what this place has meant to me," Ammons said. "I am incredibly grateful for every player, coach, administrator, and supporter who has been part of this journey. This program has shaped me both personally and professionally, and I will always be thankful for the relationships, memories, and experiences we've shared. While it's never easy to leave a place that has given me so much, I am excited for the next chapter and will always be proud to have been a part of Columbia State Baseball."
Columbia State will begin a national search for its next head baseball coach immediately. The College remains committed to providing outstanding leadership for its baseball student-athletes and building upon the tradition of excellence established within the Charger Baseball program.
